Role and Purpose
Consistent with the overall objectives and purpose of EuroCham Singapore, the Committee on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) aims to represent the common interests of the European business community in promoting trade and investments between Europe and Singapore through the effective protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
Given the role of intellectual property for European companies to thrive and expand in Singapore and beyond], the Committee provides a platform for IP owners to represent their common interests, to raise awareness of European interests, and to act as a coherent channel of cooperation with local, regional and EU policy makers.
We aim to:
- Identify and understand the relevant issues of importance for the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
- Formulate and disseminate known positions on key issues of importance and focus.
- Build consensus on these issues amongst our members, by being a forum for our members to address common problems.
- Help strengthen the economies in which our members have invested by supporting pro-competition, free trade and investment policies which attract capital and skills.
- Provide our members with a channel of communication to the European and Singaporean political and economic authorities and business associations.
In pursuing these aims, we will:
- Invite participation from members in identifying, understanding, formulating and disseminating key issues and positions. We encourage participation from all EuroCham members and representatives from the National Business Groups.
- Engage and collaborate with Committees from the National Business Groups in Singapore and, where relevant, with those of the European Chambers of Commerce across ASEAN.
- Engage in dialogue and advocacy (through submissions, dialogue, industry events and other activities) with key audiences.
- Keep the EuroCham Board informed of our activities and consult with the Board.
On the initiative of several European brand leaders, EuroCham invited interested members to join an IPR Working Group to discuss common issues and potential actions to prevent the transit and distribution of counterfeited goods in Singapore.
